Mobiles' Opening Day Ends in Loss
MODESTO, Calif. — The RedPocket Mobiles' first night in the Pioneer League ended with a 12–1 loss to the Modesto Roadsters on Tuesday at John Thurman Field, but the scoreboard was only part of the story. The Mobiles were held to one run on two hits and broke through in the ninth inning, while Modesto used a five-run fourth, two-run fifth, and four-run eighth to pull away. It was a tough opener for RedPocket, but also the beginning of a 96-game road journey and the first chapter for a club built around opportunity.
One of the brightest takeaways came from Maxim Fullerton, who officially stepped into professional baseball after being selected by the Mobiles with the third overall pick in the 2026 Pioneer League Draft. Fullerton arrived with a strong résumé as a left-handed-hitting outfielder from Regis University, where he finished with a .350 career batting average, a .429 on-base percentage, a .589 slugging percentage, 23 home runs, and 135 RBIs. He also brought the kind of athletic profile that makes him an intriguing piece for RedPocket, with experience across the outfield and a background built on energy, leadership, and hard contact.
For the Mobiles, Opening Night was less about a perfect start and more about the first step. RedPocket ran into a Modesto team that made the most of its chances, but Fullerton's debut gave the night a bigger meaning: a young player beginning his pro career, a new team beginning its story, and a roster that will get another chance to respond right away. The Mobiles will have plenty to clean up, but on a night full of firsts, Fullerton's arrival in professional baseball gave RedPocket something worth building around.
