RPM Battles Back Late in One-Run Loss
Gianni Horvat drives in three as RedPocket pushes Modesto to the final out
MODESTO, Calif. — The RedPocket Mobiles came up just short Saturday night in Modesto, falling 6–5 to the Roadsters at John Thurman Field in their closest game of the opening series. Modesto jumped ahead 2–0 in the first inning, but RedPocket answered immediately with a three-run second to take the lead. Maury Weaver, Josiah Chavez, and Sergio Hernandez all came around to score in the inning, with Harold Torres and Marquis Jackson drawing RBI walks before Gianni Horvat lifted a sacrifice fly to center to put the Mobiles in front, 3–2.
The Roadsters tied the game in the bottom of the second, then moved back ahead with a run in the fifth and two more in the seventh. RedPocket starter Ren Arias kept the Mobiles within reach, working six innings while allowing four runs on eight hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Wyatt Adams also gave RedPocket a clean inning out of the bullpen, striking out two in a scoreless eighth to keep the deficit at three heading into the ninth.
RedPocket made one final push in the ninth, loading the bases and cutting the deficit to one when Gianni Horvat singled to left field to bring home Harold Torres and Sergio Hernandez. Horvat finished with three RBIs, while Maury Weaver went 2-for-5 and the Mobiles stole seven bases, including three from Marquis Jackson and two from Weaver. The comeback stopped one run short, but RedPocket's late fight, early lead, and pressure on the bases made Saturday's 6–5 loss another clear step forward for a team still chasing its first breakthrough win.
