The King of JUCO Takes the Stage for RedPocket
Eric Sim records a hit, takes the mound, and exits the Mobiles with one crisp high five coming back
MODESTO, Calif. — The RedPocket Mobiles dropped Sunday's series finale to the Modesto Roadsters, 9–3, but the box score came with a baseball-internet cameo worth the price of admission: Eric Sim, better known as The King of JUCO, suited up for RedPocket and made his presence felt on both sides of the ball. Sim, a South Korea-born Canadian former professional player and content creator, was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 27th round of the 2010 MLB Draft and has since built a massive following around his unfiltered love of baseball, junior college grinders, and absolute chaos energy.
Sim entered the game at first base and finished 1-for-3 at the plate, adding one of RedPocket's seven hits on the afternoon. He also took the mound for an inning, allowing one run on two hits with a walk, officially giving the Mobiles the full King of JUCO experience: bat, glove, arm, vibes, and probably a few stories that should not be repeated near children. RedPocket's offense was led by Justin Johnson, who opened the scoring with a solo home run to left-center in the second inning, while Maury Weaver added an RBI single in the third to score Gianni Horvat.
Modesto eventually pulled away with runs in the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, but Sunday's real headline belonged to Sim's RedPocket appearance — and his immediate place in Mobiles lore. After one game, one hit, one inning pitched, and unlimited content potential, the RedPocket Mobiles are trading Eric Sim to the Ogden Raptors in exchange for a crisp high five. It may not show up cleanly in the transaction log, but in the spirit of independent baseball, internet baseball, and The King of JUCO himself, it feels like fair value.
The Mobiles will hit the road again for a 3-game series against the Yuba-Sutter Freebirds that starts on Tuesday, May 26 at Bryant Field in Marysville.
