New Faces Help Mobiles Push Freebirds to the Edge
Spence Coffman drives in a run in his RedPocket debut, while Kade Walker delivers two scoreless innings out of the bullpen
MARYSVILLE, Calif. — The RedPocket Mobiles added a jolt of fresh energy Wednesday night in Marysville, with Spence Coffman making his first appearance after arriving from the Windy City ThunderBolts of the Frontier League. Coffman stepped immediately into the No. 2 spot in the lineup and gave RedPocket a lead in the third inning, beating out an RBI single to third base that brought home Marquis Jackson and put the Mobiles in front, 2–1. It was a quick first impression from Coffman, who brought recent Pioneer League success and affiliated experience into a RedPocket lineup still searching for its first breakthrough win.
RedPocket also got a strong debut from Kade Walker, who gave the Mobiles exactly what they needed out of the bullpen. Walker entered after starter Edgar Rodriguez and worked two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out one. His outing helped settle the game after Yuba-Sutter had built a 4–2 lead, and Wyatt Adams followed with a perfect eighth inning to keep the Mobiles within striking distance. Those relief appearances gave RedPocket enough room to mount a late rally.
That rally came in the eighth, when Gianni Horvat and Justin Johnson reached base ahead of Raul Guillermo, who singled to center field to score both runners and tie the game at 4–4. Marco Martinez also homered earlier in the night, while Horvat and Johnson each finished with two hits. Yuba-Sutter eventually walked it off in the ninth, but the 5–4 loss came with real positives for the Mobiles: Coffman's immediate impact, Walker's steady debut, and another late push that showed the Mobiles are getting closer to turning a tight game into their first win.
