Johnson Homers Late as Mobiles Close Oakland Series
RedPocket collects nine hits, but Ballers’ big sixth inning creates separation
OAKLAND, Calif. — The RedPocket Mobiles wrapped up their weekend series in Oakland on Sunday afternoon with a 7–1 loss to the Ballers at Raimondi Park. RedPocket had traffic throughout the game, finishing with nine hits and three walks, but the Mobiles were unable to cash in until the ninth inning. Gianni Horvat continued his strong start to the season with two hits and a walk, while Josiah Chavez stayed hot at the plate with two more hits and two walks.
Oakland built the lead gradually, scoring once in the first, fourth, and fifth innings before breaking the game open with a four-run sixth. Charlie Adamson worked six innings for RedPocket, striking out four, while Philip Sanders and Miguel Ochoa each gave the Mobiles a clean inning out of the bullpen. Ochoa finished the day with a perfect eighth, striking out two of the three batters he faced.
The Mobiles finally broke through in the ninth when Justin Johnson launched a solo home run, giving RedPocket its lone run of the afternoon. Kishon Frett added a double, Spence Coffman and Marquis Jackson each had a hit, and Jackson also stole a base as the Mobiles continued to find ways to create opportunities. The final score went Oakland's way, but Horvat's consistency, Chavez's continued production, Ochoa's sharp relief work, and Johnson's late power gave RedPocket positives to carry into the next stop on the road.
