Frett’s Big Day Powers Mobiles in Walk-Off Heartbreaker
Kishon Frett homers, doubles, and drives in three as RedPocket falls 8–7 to Long Beach
LONG BEACH, Calif. — The RedPocket Mobiles came out swinging Saturday afternoon against the Long Beach Coast, building an early lead behind another explosive start from the offense before falling 8–7 in walk-off fashion at Blair Field. Gianni Horvat opened the scoring in the first, coming home on a Ravaughn Morgan fielder's choice, and Kishon Frett followed with the biggest swing of the inning: a two-run homer to left field that brought in Morgan and gave RedPocket a quick 3–0 lead.
Long Beach tied the game in the second, but the Mobiles kept answering. Frett doubled home Morgan in the third to put RedPocket back in front, Morgan drove in Horvat in the fifth, and Horvat singled home Maury Weaver in the sixth to stretch the lead to 6–4. RedPocket added another run in the seventh when Frett scored on a passed ball, giving the Mobiles a 7–5 advantage. Frett finished a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, a home run, a walk, three RBIs, and two runs scored, while Horvat added two hits, two runs, and an RBI.
The Coast rallied late, tying the game in the seventh before walking it off in the ninth on Matthew Bardowell's fielder's choice. Kade Walker gave RedPocket five innings on the mound, and the Mobiles' bullpen worked to protect the lead into the late frames, but Long Beach found just enough offense at the end. The loss was a tough finish after RedPocket led multiple times, but Frett's breakout performance, Morgan's two RBIs, Horvat's continued production, and another competitive game against one of the league's hottest teams gave the Mobiles plenty of fight to carry forward.
