Heartbreaker in Boise: Hawks Walk Off Mobiles in the Ninth
Agnel Miranda shines in six scoreless innings, but Boise rallies for three runs in the final frame to steal a 3-2 victory
BOISE, Idaho — The RedPocket Mobiles were one inning away from opening their Boise series with a statement win Tuesday night, but the Hawks erased a two-run deficit in the bottom of the ninth to walk off with a 3-2 victory. Behind outstanding pitching and timely seventh-inning offense, the Mobiles carried a 2-0 lead into the final frame before Boise mounted its late comeback.
Agnel Miranda turned in one of his best starts of the season, tossing six scoreless innings while allowing just four hits, walking two, and striking out five. Ethan Ross followed with a scoreless seventh, and Philip Sanders retired the side in order in the eighth to preserve the shutout. The Mobiles' pitching staff held Boise scoreless through eight innings and limited the Hawks to just five hits entering the ninth.
RedPocket finally broke through in the seventh. T.J. McKenzie singled and scored when Jonathan Smith ripped an RBI double to left field. Later in the inning, Edward Mateo grounded into a double play that allowed Smith to cross the plate, extending the Mobiles' lead to 2-0. Jordan Harrison-Dudley paced the offense with two doubles in a 2-for-3 night while adding a walk. Smith, McKenzie, and Nick Poss each contributed a hit as RedPocket finished with five hits and four walks.
After a Juan Abreu balk extended the inning with two outs, Boise delivered its best swings of the night. Jacob Sisto tied the game with a two-run home run before Ethan Underwood delivered the decisive RBI single later in the inning, completing the comeback and handing the Mobiles another heartbreaking one-run loss. Despite the outcome, Miranda's dominant outing and a strong effort from the bullpen gave RedPocket plenty to build on heading into the remainder of the series.
