Chavez Homers Twice as Mobiles Fall Just Short
RedPocket rallies in the ninth, but Yuba-Sutter holds on for a one-run win
MARYSVILLE, Calif. — The RedPocket Mobiles were locked in a tight one Thursday night at Bryant Field, but their late push came up just short in a 5–4 loss to the Yuba-Sutter Freebirds. After four scoreless innings, RedPocket broke through in the fifth behind back-to-back solo home runs from Josiah Chavez and Justin Johnson, giving the Mobiles a 2–0 lead. Yuba-Sutter answered in the bottom half with three runs to move in front, turning the game into a back-and-forth battle the rest of the way.
Chavez delivered the biggest night for the RedPocket offense, homering again in the seventh to tie the game at 3–3. He finished 2-for-4 with two home runs, two RBIs, and two runs scored, accounting for half of the Mobiles' runs. Johnson added his own solo shot and reached base three times with two walks, while Gianni Horvat, Spence Coffman, Hector Nieves, and Andy Valdes each added a hit. RedPocket also stayed aggressive on the bases, getting steals from Horvat, Jordan Harrison-Dudley, and Ravaughn Morgan.
Yuba-Sutter reclaimed the lead in the seventh on a passed ball and added an important insurance run in the eighth on Zach Chamizo's RBI double. The Mobiles made one final push in the ninth, with Harrison-Dudley scoring on a Valdes groundout to cut the deficit to 5–4, but the rally stopped there. Philip Sanders gave RedPocket two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, and Miguel Ochoa and Billy Rozakis each struck out multiple batters in relief. The final score went Yuba-Sutter's way, but Chavez's two-homer night and another close late-game effort gave the Mobiles plenty to build on.
