Nieves Hits for the Cycle in Mobiles’ One-Run Heartbreaker
Hector Nieves collects a single, double, triple, and home run while driving in five against Yuba-Sutter
MARYSVILLE, Calif. — Hector Nieves made RedPocket Mobiles history Saturday night at Bryant Field, hitting for the cycle in an 11–12 loss to the Yuba-Sutter Freebirds. Nieves finished 4-for-5 with five RBIs and two runs scored, recording all four major hit types across a huge offensive performance. He opened his night with a two-run triple in the first inning, then launched a two-run home run in the fifth. An RBI single in the sixth left only a double missing, which he also collected to complete the cycle.
Nieves' historic night powered RedPocket to an early advantage. The Mobiles scored four runs in the first and carried an 11–6 lead into the late innings. Gianni Horvat added a two-run single, while Justin Johnson and Andy Valdes each homered and drove in two runs. Valdes finished with two hits and two runs scored, and Johnson added two hits as RedPocket produced 11 runs on 12 hits and drew nine walks.
Yuba-Sutter continued to chip away before completing the comeback with five runs in the eighth inning. Jamal George Rivera's two-run single tied the game, and Andrew Bergeron's RBI single brought home the eventual winning run. The final score spoiled the outcome RedPocket wanted, but Nieves' cycle gave the Mobiles a landmark individual performance and one of the most memorable offensive nights of their inaugural season.
